Modifying a Zeiss portable to stereo

Another recent project was to fit a new solar cell to a Zeiss portable projector as the last one had become cracked. For this we used a Dolby stereo cell of the type used on a Westrex 2003. Once it had been fitted we became aware that not enough light from the exciter lamp was falling on the film.

On closer inspection it was found that the previous lamp holder had become broken and the tungsten lamp was out of position. Our first attempt to use an LED failed in that it did not give an even light across the slit and so the holder was changed to take the original tungsten lamp.
